Queer Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersex (LGBTI) Students

The faculty is committed to encouraging increased enrolment by Queer (LGBTI) students and working with these students who are currently enrolled, to assist them to complete their studies successfully.

Within the University

The MU Student Union Queer Department develops campaigns and provides support to queer students on campus and in the wider community. They also organise a number of events and run the Queer Space on the third floor of Union House.

The University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association (UMPA) also has a Queer Equity Group for Queer postgraduate students.

As part of the University of Melbourne's suite of Wellbeing Services, the Counselling Service provides counselling services for staff and students. On the Counselling Service website there is an Information and Resources section to improve people's understanding regarding many issues that are frequently raised with the Counselling Service including Sexuality.

Within the Faculty

The Faculty includes many gay and lesbian students and staff. The Queer (LGBTI) EO Officer has a primary role of providing the gay and lesbian student body with assistance and support in academic and other related matters. This includes acting as a mentor to the gay and lesbian law students and members of academic staff. The officer also assists in the organisation of gay and lesbian law interest group sessions as well as organising social functions.

The Law Students' Society (LSS) Queer Portfolio provides support to queer students at the Law School, as well as organising a series of social events and guest speakers.
