Indigenous Students

The Faculty is committed to encouraging increased enrolment by Indigenous students and working with Indigenous students who are currently enrolled, to assist them to complete their studies successfully.

Within the University

The Centre for Indigenous Education is the main focus for the recruitment of and support services to indigenous students. It assists students with course selection, tutorials, accommodation, study, personal support, community networking, cross-cultural development and career counselling. The Centre provides meeting rooms, study areas, computer equipment and a resource library. Located within the heart of one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious universities, The Centre for Indigenous Education provides for a wide range of academic undergraduate and postgraduate support services. Within the Faculty

The Liaison Officer for Indigenous Students was appointed to provide assistance to Indigenous students, including;

  • Acting as an adviser for Indigenous law students
  • Liaising between Indigenous law students and members of academic staff where necessary
  • Arranging seminars and information sessions to sensitise academic staff to the issues involved in teaching Indigenous students
  • Helping to link Indigenous students with tutors under the ATAS (Aboriginal Tutoring Assistance Scheme)
  • Liaising between the Law Faculty and the University’s Centre for Indigenous Education, which provides support services to all Indigenous students on campus
  • Providing advice to the Faculty on policies and projects  relating to Indigenous students.
