GenderThe University of Melbourne is committed to creating and maintaining a work and learning environment free from sexual harrassment and discrimination. In 2008 the Law School introduced a Gender EO Liaison Officer to act as a contact and provide advice for women and other students who have an equal opportunity concern based on gender. Within the UniversityThe MU Student Union Women's Department actively campaigns against sexual discrimination on and off campus. The Women's Department also runs a range of activities and provides information about services available to women both at the University (including the W*men's Room) and the community at large. The University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association also has a Women's Equity Group that offers postgraduate women a range of social and academic events as well as information and opportunities for discussion on areas directly related to areas of study. For further information please refer to the UMPA Postgraduate Women website. Within the FacultyThe Gender EO Liaison Officer was appointed to act as a point of contact and assistance for women students, and students who have equal opportunity concerns based on gender. This includes offering support to students or student societies that bring women students together to encourage networks and provide opportunities for discussion. The gender EO Officer is also responsible for liaising with staff and students, with regard to ensuring that the special needs of women students, and students who have equal opportunity concerns based on gender, are addressed. Each year the Law Students' Society elect LSS Women's Officers to oversee the Women's Portfolio. The LSS Women's Portfolio aims to provide law students with practical opportunities to support women in the law. This career-focused outlook is designed to ensure that the women of the Melbourne Law School are provided with wider legal career options and greater inspiration from professional women in the legal community. |
